Shu is physically the strongest of the Troopers and the most stubborn next to Ryo. He was born into a wealthy family and is the oldest of five children. His ancestors immigrated to Japan from China, though some speculate that Shu's family immigrated because Shu's family had more than one child, which is against China's laws. It is through Shu's ancestors that the legend of the Yoroi is passed down, and the secret of Kongo kept.
Shu's parents own a restaurant which is located in Chinatown, Yokohama, and is among a chain of restaurants that rapidly built up through grand prospering. It is through these prospering restauraunts that Shu's family is most likely wealthy. It is evident that someday Shu may someday take over his parents' business in the future.
Shu is protective of his family and friends, and fighting against evil and injustice is his passion. At times, he doesn't think about the consequences at first and will rush head first into a battle. He often falls prey to illusions and can be easily deceived. He has a temper that can rival Shuten's and Ryo's, though he has more self control.
Shu first recieved his armor when a test, unknowingly set up by his grandfather, proved he was the right one to bear and possess the Yoroi. Due to an accident that was caused either by his siblings or by another person, Shu purposely added onto the accident to take all of them blame upon himself, by breaking several more of the temple's treasures. It was because of this that Shu became fated to wear the Yoroi of Kongo.
Despite Shu's friendship with Shin, it was Touma who Shu actually first met and befriended when he found himself called to strike up against Arago. According to some reports, Shu and Touma met at an ancient Buddah Temple where Kasou would train them and the other Troopers. It is most likely that Shu and Shin became best friends through their opposition. But deep down, Shu treasures all of his friends.
